Shut-Ins

This article is very interesting, and mind-boggling. I don't expect many will have time to read it all, but even if you don't have time to read it all, perhaps you have time to pray for Japan? Glib-sounding but true: Jesus is the only hope for problems like this.

Jamie, I read most of the article and intend to go back to finish. Wow, I don't think I have ever heard of this! Prayer. . .yes! a lot of prayer.

I actually did read it all before I saw your post. Very sad, and yes, Japan needs our prayers.

This is astounding. I read the whole thing and kept wondering, with my very American sensibility, "How can this happen? How can the parents put up with it? Why don't they boot their butts out the door or send them to counseling?" They're all clearly depressed.

But by the article's end I understood more about the cultural influences and how parents (and the hikikomori) find themselves trapped in this before they know it.
