This record of events was established in 2005 when our three person family was residing cozily in a downtown Tokyo studio. We have since grown to five members and after many wonderful years in the suburbs of Chicago, we've returned to Tokyo. My husband and I both work full time; my name is Jamie and I'm the author of this blog!

Horse meat is a Kumamoto specialty, though somehow the Japanese term "basashi"--which technically means raw horse meat--sounds a little more elegant. In any case, though I was up for trying the meat, I was not ready to venture into the raw camp. Fortunately, this little dish of raw meat and vegetables also came with a little grill. We were able to finish our meat to personal preference and then dip away in the partitioned dishes. All those sauces, and the one that ended up complimenting horse meat the best was the salt in the lower left corner!
